Our Wood Restoration Process
Cleaning – Our wood restoration process is amazingly thorough and unique– and the results we get are stunning. Rather than blasting wood with high pressure which leaves marks on the wood, raising the grain and leaving the surface all fuzzy– we use a three-step process to create a long-lasting natural beauty.
Wood restoration is, probably, the most misunderstood process. Wood is soft and can be easily damaged with too much water pressure and chemicals A lot of factors determine what deck cleaner we will use to restore the wood with our wood restoration process. Once we choose the correct cleaners, we wash the wood with the right amount of pressure. We then do a neutralizing process to prepare the wood to be sealed. The number one reason a sealer fails is because the wood is not prepared properly.
You should clean your deck at least once a year. The deck or dock may need to be cleaned more often if you live in an area surrounded by trees or other vegetation because there is a chance that it stays wet more often which in turn will allow for mold build-up or that leaves and other debris can fall on the deck, which can lead to stains and other problems like rot or soft spots.
Staining or Painting -We ensure that all wood is completely dry prior to our staining process. When applying the stain, we will apply 2 coats to ensure a full coverage application. We let our customers determine if they would like a Transparent, Semi-Transparent, or Solid Stain.
Reasons to Stain and Seal Decks
Deck staining is a very important process that will improve the appearance of your deck and help protect it from the elements like rain, snow, and wind, which can all cause damage greying, and oxidation. A good quality stain can help your deck last for a much longer period of time than if left untreated. If left untreated your exterior wood deck will fall victim to the elements and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
Because wood stain is designed to accentuate the wood grain in your wood, it’s typically limited to clear varieties or shades of brown. If you would like a more vibrant and wider palette of color there is the option of painting your deck.
There are many reasons why you should paint your deck, but understand that the paint hides the distinctive details in the wood that give it character. The pro is that Paint offers a more sleek, modern appearance and can be great for hiding flaws in the wood especially if it old and worn. Also with Painting the deck, paint generally comes out as the more durable and impervious finish, lasting 10 years or longer before requiring re-application. A con can be that Paint typically is permanent. It’s a given that you’ll most likely always paint your deck after making the decision to do so.
It is easier to transition from stain to paint, but it takes much more effort, time, and money to switch from paint to stain.hree
